Send and receive TRAI

Receive TRAI with an address or a payment request, send a reviewed payment to one or several recipients, merge small coins, burn TRAI and set up alerts.

On this page

Receive

Give the sender your address or its QR code. The Tenrai Wallet shows both under Receive with the verification words; tenrai-wallet receive --qr prints them.

Request a payment

A payment request carries the address, an amount and an optional payload, such as an invoice number, as a link or a QR code:

Text
trai:trai1…?amount=1.5&payload=Invoice%2042

Request payment in the Tenrai Wallet makes one. A scanned or pasted request fills in the recipient, the amount and the payload. The payload may hold letters, digits, spaces and . , : ; - _ / # + ( ) ! ? % @ * &, up to 128 bytes; a request with any other character or parameter is refused as a whole. Testnets use the scheme trai-test:, development networks trai-dev:.

Incoming payments

A payment that is still in the mempool shows as pending. It is not part of your balance yet and cannot be spent. It counts once a cut finalizes it, usually after a few seconds.

Send

Tenrai Wallet

  1. Paste or scan the recipient's address or payment request.
  2. Compare the Recipient fingerprint with the recipient's verification words.
  3. Enter the amount. Max sends as much as one transaction can carry.
  4. Pick a fee: minimum, normal or priority, or enter your own.
  5. Optionally add a payload, a short text or bytes stored with the payment.
  6. Check the review and confirm.

Command line

Shell
tenrai-wallet send --to <address or payment request> --amount 1.5 --payload-text "Invoice 42" --wait
Option
--feeminimum, normal (default), priority or a total fee in TRAI
--payload-text, --payload-hexA payload as text or as hexadecimal
--subtract-feeTakes the fee out of the amount
--dry-runShows the signed transaction and its fee without sending it
--waitReturns once the transaction is final or has failed
--request-idYour id for this payment; a repeated id never sends twice

The wallet shows the recipients with their verification words and asks before it sends.

The transaction then moves through In mempool, Mined, Registered and Finalized; Transactions and fees explains each stage.

A node that is not synchronized with its peers may not know your latest coins, so the wallet waits up to 30 seconds for it and sends nothing if it stays behind. See The node is not synchronized.

Several recipients

One transaction pays up to seven recipients, all of them or none. Each recipient can get its own payload.

Tenrai Wallet

Add recipient adds a line. One payload can go to everyone, or each recipient gets its own.

Command line

Shell
tenrai-wallet send-many --recipient trai1…=10 --recipient trai1…=2.5="Invoice 43"

Many small coins

One transaction spends at most eight coins. A wallet that received many small payments, such as a miner's, often needs more than that for a larger payment. Compounding merges the coins of each address into one, so later payments stay cheap. Addresses are never mixed.

Tenrai Wallet

When a payment needs more coins, the wallet offers Compound and send: it merges coins first, waits until that is final and then shows the payment for review. Compound under Settings, Coins merges at any time, and the wallet reminds you once more than 25 coins wait.

Command line

Shell
tenrai-wallet compound --wait
tenrai-wallet send --to <address> --amount 5000 --compound-first

Automation

Settings, Coins, Automation in the Tenrai Wallet can compound an address once it holds more than a set number of coins or a set amount besides its largest coin, and can forward everything to another wallet once a set amount is spendable. Automation runs only while the wallet is unlocked, pays the normal fee and signs without asking; turning it on takes the password.

Burn TRAI

Burning pays an amount to the burn address. No key can spend it, and the chain takes it out of the supply for good. A burn cannot be undone.

Tenrai Wallet

Burn under Settings, Coins. The review names the burn address as the recipient, and the send form warns when you paste it. Automation never pays to it.

Command line

Shell
tenrai-wallet burn --amount 100

The wallet asks before it burns; --yes skips the question in scripts.

Password before moving coins

The Tenrai Wallet asks for the password before every payment, burn, compound, sweep, stake and unstake. Settings, Security can limit it to amounts above a threshold, or turn it off. Changing the setting takes the password.

The speaker in the header mutes every sound at once. Sounds and notifications cover only what arrives after the wallet has synchronized. Notifications appear while the wallet is open and unlocked but not in front. Phones and laptops pause pages in the background to save power; the background setting keeps the wallet awake with an inaudible tone, so the device may show it as playing audio.

Activity and statements

The Tenrai Wallet keeps the latest 500 transactions on the device, or up to 5,000 under Settings, General, Activity history. Older ones are deleted; the balance comes from the coins themselves and stays right.

Settings, Statement creates an account statement as a PDF: every address with its balance and every transaction of the period with date, cut, transaction ID, amounts, fee and the other side, for your records, an accountant or a tax office. The main address signs it, so anyone can check that it comes from this wallet and is unchanged. Check a statement on the same page verifies such a PDF, on any device and without sending it anywhere.

On the command line, tenrai-wallet history lists the transactions and tenrai-wallet received --since <height> every coin paid to the wallet after a finalized height.
