FAQ

Short answers to common questions about TRAI, wallets, payments, finality, mining and staking on Tenrai.

On this page

How long until a payment is final?

Usually a few seconds. A payment is final once a cut executes it, and cuts come every 2.5 seconds. A final payment is never reversed.

What is a cut?

The unit of finality on Tenrai. Every 2.5 seconds the validators certify one: it registers the newest work blocks and executes earlier ones in a fixed order. See Work blocks and cuts.

Why does my balance not include a payment I can see?

A payment in the mempool shows as pending and joins the balance once a cut finalizes it. That way a payment that never goes through can never be spent.

What is the smallest amount?

One atom, 0.00000001 TRAI. Amounts have 8 decimal places.

Do I need to run a node?

No. Wallets work with a public Tenrai API. With your own node they need no outside service, and nobody else sees which addresses you look up.

Why 24 words and not 12?

Tenrai keys are ML-DSA-65 keys, derived from a 256-bit seed. 24 words carry exactly that much; 12 words would carry half and are refused.

Can I use my 24 words in another wallet app?

Only in wallets that derive keys the Tenrai way, TCC-0001. The words come from the BIP-39 word list, but Tenrai derives its post-quantum keys in its own way, so a wallet built for other chains finds a different, empty wallet.

Can others read what I send?

A payment's payload is public. The messenger encrypts every text end to end from the second message of a chat on; the first message, who writes to whom and when stay public.

What are the six verification words?

Public words computed from an address, for comparing an address by eye or by phone. They are not a recovery phrase. See Addresses.

Is there a minimum to stake?

1,000 TRAI per position. Rewards are paid once a day without claiming, for every day on which the validator sits in the committee and does its job. See Staking and delegation.

Can I burn TRAI?

Yes. A burn pays an amount to the burn address, which no key can spend, and the chain takes it out of the supply for good. See Burn TRAI.

When are all TRAI issued?

Each day pays out 0.3 % of the emission still to come. Half of it is out after 231 days and 99 % after 4.2 years; the last atom follows on day 12,650, about 34.6 years after the start. From then on miners and stakers earn transaction fees only. See Economics.

Can I mine with a CPU?

Yes, but a GPU is far faster. A CPU thread manages several hundred hashes per second, a mid-range GPU more than a hundred times that. See Start mining.

Is Tenrai safe against quantum computers?

Its signatures are. Keys and signatures use ML-DSA-65 (FIPS 204), the messenger exchanges keys with ML-KEM-512 (FIPS 203), and node and pool connections use the hybrid key exchange X25519MLKEM768. See Cryptography.
