Pool mining
Connect the Tenrai Miner to a pool, understand PPLNS and SOLO payouts, and check your shares and balance on the pool's website.
A pool combines the hashrate of many miners and pays each one a share of the blocks the pool finds. Payouts come in small, regular amounts instead of whole blocks.
Connect
tenrai-miner -a <your address> --stratum stratum+tls://pool.example.org:28741 -w rig1 --pool| Part | Meaning |
|---|---|
-a | Your payout address. The pool credits it and pays from its own wallet |
--stratum | The pool's URL. Several URLs, separated by commas, are tried in order |
-w | A worker name per rig: letters, digits, ., _ and -, at most 32 |
--pool | Allows work that pays the pool's address |
Without --pool the miner refuses work whose blocks pay anyone but -a. That protects solo miners from a server that redirects their blocks; for a pool, it is expected.
Encrypted connections
| URL | Protocol |
|---|---|
stratum+tcp:// | Version 1, plain text, only to a pool on the same machine |
stratum+tls:// | Version 1 over TLS 1.3 |
stratum2+tls:// | Version 2, binary frames, always TLS 1.3 |
TLS connections use the post-quantum key exchange X25519MLKEM768 only.
PPLNS and SOLO
Pools built on the Tenrai reference pool offer both modes on separate ports:
| Mode | Payout |
|---|---|
| PPLNS | Each block's reward is split over the shares of the last two blocks' worth of work. Steady income |
| SOLO | The miner whose share found the block gets its reward. Rare, large payouts |
Each pool sets its own fee; the reference pool defaults to 2.5 % for PPLNS and 3 % for SOLO.
Share difficulty
The pool adjusts each worker's share difficulty so it sends a share about every 20 seconds. To fix it instead, put d=<difficulty> in the password:
tenrai-miner -a <your address> --stratum stratum+tls://pool.example.org:28741 -w rig1 --pool -p "d=131072"Check your balance
A pool's website shows your workers, hashrate, balance and payouts under your payout address; pools built on the reference pool at /miner/<your address>, and through a Miningcore-style API under /api/pools. Payouts go out once the balance reaches the pool's minimum, each as a normal payment to your address.
