Addresses
What a Tenrai address looks like, how a wallet hands out addresses, and how verification words and ownership proofs protect against mistakes.
On this page
A Tenrai address is a lower-case Bech32m string. Its prefix names the network, and its checksum catches typos before anything is sent.
| Network | Example start |
|---|---|
| Mainnet | trai1… |
| Testnet, Testnet100 | ttrai1… |
| Development | dtrai1… |
Wallets refuse an address with a bad checksum, upper-case letters or the prefix of another network.
One address or many
The Tenrai wallets keep payments and change on one main address by default. That is the cheapest way to use Tenrai: once an address has spent, its public key is in the chain's key registry, and every later input from it carries about 37 % fewer witness bytes.
| Mode | Receiving | Change | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single (default) | The main address; more on request | Back to the main address | Lowest fees |
| Fresh | A new address once the last one was paid | A new address per payment | More privacy, higher fees |
Tenrai Wallet
Switch the mode under Settings, Addresses, which also lists every address in use and picks the one Receive shows.
Command line
tenrai-wallet address-mode fresh
tenrai-wallet new-address --label "customer 1042"new-address hands out an address no earlier call returned, with an optional label.
Reusing an address is safe on Tenrai: its keys are post-quantum, so a public key on the chain does not weaken it.
Verification words
Every address has six public words, for example windmill talc frosty fjord frothy sorghum. They are computed from the address, so anyone can check them. Read them out over the phone or compare them on two screens before a large payment.
The Tenrai Wallet shows the words under Receive and, in the send review, as Recipient fingerprint. On the command line, tenrai-wallet address-words <address> prints them.
Address book
The Tenrai Wallet keeps names for addresses under Settings, Address book, encrypted on the device. The names appear in the activity, and the book icon next to Scan picks a saved address when you send.
Finding coins on other addresses
A wallet derives its addresses from the recovery phrase in order and stops looking after a run of unused ones: 100 after a restore, 20 on later unlocks. Coins on an address further ahead, for example one handed out by another wallet with the same phrase, stay hidden until you scan deeper. The Tenrai Wallet does that under Settings, Addresses: 1,000 addresses by default, up to 10,000.
Proving you own an address
An ownership proof shows that you control an address without moving coins. The other side creates a proof request with a random challenge, and your wallet signs it with the key of that address. Exchanges and merchants use it to confirm that a withdrawal address belongs to the customer.
Tenrai Wallet
Settings, Ownership answers a request, and creates and checks requests of your own.
Command line
tenrai-wallet proof-request --address <address> --request request.json
tenrai-wallet prove-address --request request.json --proof proof.json
tenrai-wallet verify-address-proof --proof proof.json --request request.jsonTCC-0004 defines the request and proof format, TCC-0003 the verification words.
